While we all know March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day, it seemed too easy to center the after dinner talk about something Irish (although Tim O’Keefe has recently edited a volume on the Irish in the Bay area). Instead we thought we could take this opportunity to introduce you to the newest tenure-track member of the department, its modern Russianist, Amy Randall.

Amy came to Santa Clara in 2004 from the University of Mississippi where she had taught for three years. She received her bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and her doctorate in history from Princeton. She is a recipient of the very prestigious American Council of Learned Societies/Social Science Research Council Fellowship and the author of a number of articles on aspects of consumerism in the Soviet Union. Amy is currently working on a book-length manuscript on Soviet retail trade and consumption in the 1930s. She has presented papers on her research in Hungary, England and the United States since coming to Santa Clara. Her talk will deal with “Stalinism.”

As usual, members of the department look forward to visiting with you and catching up on your latest professional and personal accomplishments.
